PRESS RELEASE Quanta Microsystems Announces 4G-WiMAX Wideband USB Modem Enabled by Beceem’s High-Performance BCSM350 Chip New USB Modem supports roaming across different 2GHz WiMAX networks WiMAX FORUM CONGRESS ASIA, TAIPEI -- April 13, 2010 – Quanta Microsystems, a leading provider of Wireless Modems and Communications Modules, and Beceem, a leading provider of 4G chips, today announced that Quanta Microsystems is developing a next generation 4G-WiMAX USB modem based on Beceem’s BCSM350 4G-WiMAX chip. The new USB modem is specifically designed to support all WiMAX deployments in the 2GHz band and enables roaming across service providers, an increasingly important capability given the fast growing number of WiMAX networks and coverage footprint. Quanta Microsystems’ new USB modem provides 2GHz roaming at a price that is lower than that of traditional WiMAX USB modems, an advantage enabled by the innovative wideband front-end design that is part of the BCSM350’s reference design. “The BCSM350 offers an ideal combination of high-performance delivered at low-power, and the reference design is enhanced by significant product-level innovations to enable low-cost USB modems that can roam across different WiMAX networks,” said Lars Johnsson, vice president of marketing and business development for Beceem Communications. “We believe the wideband front-end combined with increased uplink performance and reduced power consumption makes the BCSM350 the most suitable 4G-WiMAX chip for mobile applications.” “Quanta Microsystems is one of the established leaders in the WiMAX Industry,” said Stanley Wang, vice president of marketing at Quanta Microsystems. “We expect that the BCSM350’s superior wideband 4G performance will be a true market differentiator for our WiMAX USB modem with increasing customer satisfaction and market adoption.” About Beceem Communications Beceem is a leading provider of 4G semiconductors and offers a number of single-chip solutions optimized for mobile devices and CPE markets.
